April 7, 2008 SAINT JOHN (CNB) - Prudential Consulting Inc. (PCI) will establish a data centre in Saint John creating 50 new information technology jobs and 100 home-based Medical Transcription positions throughout the province, Premier Shawn Graham announced today. "Today's announcement is another example of how we are partnering with the private sector to help move New Brunswick toward self-sufficiency," said Graham. "I am very pleased that a leading Canadian-based technology company has chosen the City of Saint John to establish its first data centre in Atlantic Canada. The fact PCI is creating 100 home-based Medical Transcription positions is significant as we believe that there is potential to build upon these jobs in the future." Graham was joined at the news conference by Vikram Khurana, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Consulting Inc., Minister of Post Secondary Education, Training and Labour Ed Doherty and Saint John Mayor Norm McFarlane. “Prudential Consulting Inc is pleased to partner with the Government of New Brunswick to set-up its first Data Centre in Atlantic Canada,” said Khurana. “This investment will enable us to create 150 jobs in the province. PCI’s data centre is a move in the right direction to standardize the dictation and transcription platforms, provide consistent quality care and help reduce the backlog of patient records existing in many Canadian and North American hospitals.” The provincial government will provide Prudential Consulting Inc. with a forgivable loan of $540,000 for the 50 jobs created at its Saint John Data Centre and $260,000 for the 100 Medical Transcription jobs created. This assistance will help with capital costs of the Data Centre and the recruitment and training of employees. "This is proof that our government is aggressively working to attract new investments to the province," said Doherty. "Prudential Consulting Inc. is a welcome addition to the Saint John business community." A recent strategic alliance between PCI and 3M Canada has created these employment opportunities in New Brunswick. PCI will host and market 3M's dictation and transcription services. It will then offer the marketplace the 3M solution in a "Software as a Service" business model. "New Brunswick is recognized worldwide as the place to be for high-end IT services," added Graham. "Continuing to make strategic investments and cultivating partnerships like this one today will help us achieve our goal of self-sufficiency by 2026." Prudential Consulting Inc. is one of Canada’s leading application service providers of technology and outsourcing services in Health Information Management (HIM). PCI’s healthcare solutions such as dictation, speech recognition and transcription services, document scanning can integrate with multiple Health Information Systems (HIS).
